Celebrated Wine Seasons Events

BurgundyJune Le Floraison, the Blossoming
A summertime of beauty and grace summons members to a wine vacation holiday abundantly filled and guided by Wine Curator Cliff Young, as he presents the winemaker’s art and the gastronomy of Burgundy through custom-designed tastings, blind tasting juries, celebrations and educational presentations.

Food and wine education are the prevailing themes for Le Floraison as members become immersed in Burgundian culture and cuisine during cooking classes, grand dinners prepared by Executive Chef Mike Weist and private tastings. Wine notables attend winemaker dinners. Elegant meals are enjoyed at one-star, two-star and three-star Michelin restaurants.

The summer season, with its emphasis on warmth and beauty, permits leisurely visits with vigneron as tastings escorted by Clive Coates are conducted in cellars and out-of-doors. Picnics are planned at Chateau la Rochepot. The cultural exploration of the history of the Cote d’Or and bike tours from vineyard-to-vineyard are included, as well as rejuvenating spa experiences.

Seminars are taught by Club wine authorities, Clive Coates, Terry Leighton and Wine Curator Cliff Young as well as representatives of the Bureau Interprofessionnel des Vins de Bourgogne. Enjoy a series of winemaker dinners, discuss winemaking with talented vigneron and conclude the adventure with an all-day paulee to celebrate the harvest.

Beaune

November
Les Hospices de Beaune, World’s Greatest Wine Auction

This week-long immersion in the wine culture of Burgundy is highlighted by private visits to the small family domaines where tastings are extremely rare and where the wine that is produced is in such great demand that it is already spoken for.

Master of Wine Clive Coates presents a program of tours and tastings at the most respected domaines. Private barrel tastings of wines to be auctioned, winemaker dinners, meals at Michelin-starred restaurants, a grand winemaker dinner featuring a multi-course tasting menu, and seats at the world’s greatest wine auction – La Vente des Vins des Hospices de Beaune, celebrating its 147th year in 2007 – make this one of the most intensive wine weeks in Burgundy.

Trois GlorieusesMarchLes Pointe Vertes, the Buds
Before the vines leaf and bloom and the active cycle of the grape begins, there is a period of surface calm when the vineyards are replete with energy. The springtime is clear, brisk and stunning on the Cote d’Or and vigneron are showing their wines in a month of tastings and evaluations. This is a season when Burgundy becomes the site of the world’s greatest wine fair, Les Grands Jours de Bourgogne.

Cliff Young’s Burgundy offers a week of private and exclusive tasting events which embrace the most important producers in the villages of the Cote d’Or, the Cote Challonaise, the Cotes Maconais and Beaujolais. Featured are Gevrey-Chambertin, Morey-St-Denis, Vosne-Romanee, Nuits-St-Georges, Beaune, Meursault, and Montrachet. By night, enjoy private gatherings at the domaines, winemaker dinners and Burgundian fusion cuisine. By day, visit the wineries, taste last year’s production and shake the hands of the greatest winemakers of Burgundy.
